Children of the City is a short story written by Guerrero and won the Palanca Awards in 1971. This short story is about how life can suddenly turn into good and bad experiences. It shows how people's attitude can affect the personality of other people. The characters involved are Victor; the boy. Victor's Father, Victor's Mother; the person who didn't take care of Victor. Stranger; the new found love of Victor's Mother, Nacio; the friend of Victor in his newspaper job and Tio Pedring, the uncle of Victor. In the story, the father of Victor was involved in a rally. The father of Victor is taking care of him, but one day, his father was shot in the chest which lead him to death. His wife, the mother of Victor, suffers about the death of his husband. With that, it affected his mother's life to the point that she doesn't take care of Victor anymore. Until one day, his mother came home with some random stranger which appears to be the new man of his mother. ...
